Cycling continues to be one of the leading recreational activities in England with more than 132,000 more adults riding regularly now than in 2013, according to Sport England’s latest results from its Active People survey. In 2014, a record 183,423 employees participated in the Government's 'Cycle to Work Scheme' (a tax-efficient scheme that allows employers to buy and hire out bikes to their staff for a regular payment - the employee can buy the bike at market value at the end of the loan period). This was an 11.6% increase in take- up on 2013. Over 2.1 million people are now cycling at least once a week in England. Since 2008, British Cycling has inspired one million more people to ride bikes regularly. Sky Ride events continue to be a success for recreational cycling, with 104,100 attended events in 2013/14. Seventeen Sky Ride events took place in 2014, engaging a further 152,000 people to ride a bike. Over 25,000 people are currently competing regularly in competitive events. Almost 3,500 competitive cycling events now take place each year. Over 350 sportives were registered with British Cycling during the last twelve months, involving over 124,000 participants.    Since the success of British riders in the Tour de France and Team GB cyclists in the London Olympics, the legacy has been one of continual growth for the sport on both a participatory and spectacle level.
